How I Wrote a Book in Two Months

So I did a thing.

I wrote a book in two months.

I know, I know. It's not in a month because it's not November.

But still.

People seem to think it's a big deal that I got a 68k novel done in two months. To be honest, with no false humility, I think it is too. 

How did I do it? 

I did have a word count goal: 2,500 words a day. But that's not why I really finished the book so quickly. Because, while we're still being honest, I don't think I could have kept my word count goal if I didn't have this one thing.

Why?

Because I wouldn't be prioritizing it.

So what caused me to prioritize it?

I actually believed in this book. 

Now to get brutally honest, this is the first book that I think will get an agent. It will find a publishing house. It will make its way into people's hands.

Why do I believe in this book more than the others?

It's probably a mixture of factors. This book is the most personal one I've ever written. I've finally honed my craft to a level that I'm happy with. I'm older and more confident.

But the simple truth?

It was a choice. I decided this was the one that was going to fly. No more playing around. I was going pro.

When people tell me they don't want to invest in their book (whether in time or money) or they're not "ready" yet (whatever the heck that means), I know what they are really saying.

They haven't decided to believe in their book and themselves.
